Scame socket 0:32 outlet so well suited for us when we say live streaming outside well when we think about the 0:37 outdoor environment this is where the material it's made from comes into play so this is a grp Scame Advance GRP socket outlet 0:43 socket so it's glass reinforced polyester and we're going to take a bit of a deep dive into 0:48 you know how it works and the advantages of that material 0:52 but let's start with that temperature range gary so we here you know skipped and we're well known 0:56 for our high summer temperatures we could be up at plus 60. up the ying and yang of the weather also 1:02 means we could be down at -40 in winter and that's where that material comes in the Scame socket can 1:08 handle those temperatures they're not temperatures that we ever see here in skipton but give me some 1:12 practical environments where i may be choosing this socket outlet okay so think of lots of Advantages of GRP 1:17 industrial applications temperatures one thing we think about but also i think grp is resistant to 1:24 mechanical abuse they're incredibly rock-solid units that we'll see shortly but then that other 1:29 advantage what i'm saying when we start thinking about the chemical environment 1:32 and its resistance to lots of different types of quite aggressive chemicals so i'm starting 1:38 to think chemical works and things like that going and the problem comes when all of these 1:42 happen at the same time extremities of temperature probably salt water obviously and chemicals at the 1:48 same time is that right yeah and then throw in the sunlight if you're outside so yeah so that 1:53 probably one of the best applications for this is those sort of marine environments sewage treatment Ideal applications for GRP sockets 1:58 plants you know anywhere where there's yeah not places you might want to go on holiday but 2:03 that's where we're thinking you'll be using this type of socket also this Scame Advance socket 2:08 has a feature that makes electrician's life easier so i recommend you stay on to see what that is IK10 impact resistance 2:23 now that's what i mean by tough when it comes to grp right okay so you can withstand the hammer 2:28 blow it's actually got an ik rating as it was i guess yeah Ik10 which if you want to 2:33 get really technical is equivalent to dropping a five kilogram weight from 40 centimeters above the 2:38 product and that normally goes onto the sensitive areas like the switch and yeah so it's probably 2:44 way above that when you consider i mean that is yeah that is a thick bit of plastic okay warm me 2:49 next time we're going to do something like that we talked outside about those environments and 2:53 that links into its ip rating so what's his ip round of the enclosure okay so this comes with IP66 IP67 & IP69 ingress protection 2:58 ip66 IP67 and IP69 ratings okay in previous i've learned that that doesn't mean because you get IP69 3:07 you actually get given the other ones as a freebie do you no they're all separate in their own right 3:11 so ip69 is hot jets of water okay yeah and then often a little bit of confusion comes in when you 3:16 look at 67 and 66 because 67 is immersion in water temporary immersion in water right 66 is high 3:24 pressure objective water so some products may pass a 67 test but not a 66 so therefore always look 3:33 for on the manufacturer's product like we've got here is all of those ratings together which means 3:38 they've done all of the tests for those different scenarios so that's quite a lot of tests in order 3:43 to get that stuck onto the front of this enclosure and it matches those environments doesn't it yeah 3:47 and they've been quite clever how they do it let's say there's a there's a nice robust gasket 3:51 around this product shall we have a look at that you can see there you can see the gas oh yeah seal Single piece sealing gasket 3:55 around it you'll notice all of the fixing screws to fix it the back box or outside of that nice 4:00 stainless steel screws there as well so yeah you get a concept of the single piece gasket as well 4:05 you can't see any little there's no brakes and it's a continuous seal so that's a fantastic piece 4:10 of engineering in order to get to that stage isn't it yeah i mean this range has got everything you'd 4:15 expect with this obviously type of industrial sorry now there's obviously the color dictates 4:19 the voltages and we've got a yeah every 110 to 400 volts here and obviously all the different 4:25 phase arrangements current wise what range do we go on current wise gary 16 to 63 amps however you 16A to 63A and 125A versions 4:32 can get one that looks slightly different which is 125 amps yeah so yeah the the 1663 all come in 4:38 this common back box assembly the 125 onward has a different uh different arrangements in terms 4:43 of its back box but let's have a little look at this back box here because that's quite clever 4:48 the back boxes are bought separately installed as part of the first fix but this gives us immense 4:53 flexibility now in our installation yeah it does because obviously you can choose the voltage and 4:56 the current rating later or you can change it possibly as the installation goes on little 5:01 feature on the back box itself the mounting screws that mounted to the surface are external from the 5:07 ip seal so you're not having to drill through the enclosure which again helps you maintain that high 5:12 ip rating um so let's have a look at the um the front socket i've got a 230 volt version here Modular construction 5:20 um but if i flip it over you'll see it's made up of a number of other compartments so here's the 5:25 socket and the isolator and that just nests into the housing and you just push that in there 5:32 and obviously you're free to wire it and then you bring in your the front 5:35 part of the assembly which has got the interlock mechanism in between the isolator and the socket 5:40 obviously making sure you can only energize it when there's a plug inserted but that is 5:46 robust again that just just slot that onto the front 5:54 so once that's slotted into position now we could change our mind can we we could find 5:58 that we didn't want a 230 volt socket whether it be us or the customer that wants a change yeah 6:03 as we know factories things change process has changed you may want to swap that out so again 6:07 i can swap this front take this back assembly off the housing is still secured to the wall 6:13 and we bring in a new one so what have you brought in this is a three phase 6:17 400 volt socket outlet again so attach the inner housing so you can see there's our 6:23 three phases in neutral so that drops in nests in and again bring our front housing in 6:32 the process itself is now changed to now 400 volts yeah and the back plate stays in 6:38 place doesn't it yeah but what i really like about this because of this modular nature 6:42 so say you'd add some damage to the isolator you can change the obviously the front housing or you 6:49 can change your socket assembly without having to change everything and obviously grp is quite 6:53 an investment in terms of uh when you're putting these into an installation it's good to have that 6:58 interchangeability and ease of maintenance so what you're saying is that switch here could maybe fail 7:03 over time you could just replace it keeping all the other elements in place and that obviously 7:08 cuts down massively on cost of maintenance we saw there the single bat box arrangement but they do 7:13 do other variants don't they yeah you can have multiple uh back boxes so it's a common black Option for multiple sockets and circuit protection 7:17 box to take uh obviously different arrangements of sockets and you can also add an expansion to that 7:23 as well to allow it to put circuit protection in there as well gary so if you weren't putting your 7:27 circuit protection back at your distribution board you could have it local to the outlets themselves 7:31 yeah and we've got i think we've got the entry level model here you'll notice there's a little 7:35 there's a little blanked uh blanked patch there where you can have an led indicator 7:42 right and scame do have some quite sophisticated systems that um that will obviously that isn't 7:47 just a power on off it will detect phase loss and some other quite clever features Lock off options 7:52 as you step further into this range i noticed also that i could lock it in two positions i could lock 7:57 it off but i could also lock it on yeah so that's quite a useful feature uh you know obviously some 8:03 in some cases we're looking in industry you've got critical processes you don't want somebody 8:08 necessarily getting a little bit trigger happy and switching the wrong switch off at the wrong time 8:13 so locking on is great and obviously it's color coded accordingly because here's a different uh 8:19 scame isolator which is an emergency isolator i'll recognize that from the two colors yellow 8:24 and red so that being an emergency isolator you can only lock it in the off position yes that's 8:29 right yeah and that's obviously how you uh this one isn't an emergency isolate it's functional 8:34 but yeah that facility and that makes sense then you've got an air conditioning unit you've 8:37 got an outside industrial socket you don't want someone to come along and necessarily pull it out 8:42 and therefore turn it off but you can't just pull them out can you no you can't pull them 8:46 off because obviously these are interlocked socket outlets as well and again you go back Socket interlock 8:51 to your motors there gary these are rated all the way up to ac23 so suitable for highly inductive 8:56 loads in terms of switching and yeah but you can't accidentally pull the you can't just pull it off 9:02 on load no that's good in it so you have to put it in before you can turn it on okay and likewise 9:06 then you can't get it out great feature there's loads of great features within this sky me socket 9:11 and we love them all however it's all about
